This is a blog initiated by a group of individuals with the principal aim of standing in solidarity with people's movements towards demanding their freedoms, including those currently taking place in the Middle East and North Africa. Our activities have been several-fold:
- Circulate a petition addressed to Turkish media and NGOs to inform themselves about the ongoing situation in MENA countries, and most urgently, Libya;
- Provide and regularly update an "information resource guide" (Halk Ayaklanmaları Takip Klavuzu) with blogs, twitter users, live feeds and addresses of traditional media to keep up with the news.
- Provide contact information of humanitarian aid NGOs and unions, as well as the media, and invite people to repeatedly contact these organizations asking for medical aid to be sent to Libya and for more serious news coverage.
- Provide contact information of Turkish politicians and invite people to ask them to pressure the government and the opposition to proactively call for national and international attention to the situation and demand for an end to violence.
- Organize rallies in front of the Libyan diplomatic representations and city centers in acts of solidarity.
- Provide updates (with Turkish translations where possible) on the developments in MENA, most urgently Libya, using means of thesocial media.
This initiative was born out of the calls from Libyan people for the rest of the world to hear them. As such, we welcome any messages from Libyans and peoples of MENA countries in general that they believe need hearing. As long as there is such a call, we are willing to pass on their messages to appropriate audiences to the best of our abilities.
